Environmental Sustainability
Helzberg Diamonds is Committed to Sustainability
From sourcing materials for our jewelry to producing our catalogs to conducting
everyday business, Helzberg Diamonds shares our customers' respect for the
environment, and has incorporated sustainable business practices throughout our
company.
We work with partners who share these values.
Paper Supplier
Our paper supplier is one of two paper companies listed on the Dow Jones
Sustainability Index (DJSI). They are the only paper supplier to be listed on
the DJSI for the past seven consecutive years, receiving the highest possible
score in investors relations, environmental reporting, environmental policy and
industry-specific environmental management systems.
Additionally, the Natural Resources Defense Council has recognized our paper
supplier for using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood.
The paper mill that manufactured the paper used for our catalog has a PEFC (Programme
for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) chain-of-custody
certificate related to forest certification, and the origin of all raw wood is
known. Their wood supplier also is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 certified
and Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) registered.
Sixty percent of the power used by the paper mill is generated from bio-fuels.
Paper Stock
Helzberg Diamonds has reduced the "basis weight" of the paper product that
enables us to print the same number of high quality catalogs while reducing the
amount of paper used.
Printing
Helzberg Diamonds selects printers who use sophisticated web presses that
minimize waste paper, and all waste paper is recovered and recycled for future
use. We use soy inks, which are also recovered and recycled during the printing
process. The "totes" (large containers that carry the ink from the manufacturer
to the printer) are reused.
Recycling
Helzberg Diamonds promotes recycling in our catalogs and marketing materials, as
well as our position on the environment. Helzberg Diamonds also actively
recycles its paper waste, cans and recyclable items.
