Industry Accountability
Supporting Global Efforts to Promote Industry Accountability
In May 2005, Jewelers of America and other concerned organizations founded the
London-based not-for-profit Council for Responsible Jewelry Practices to create
a coordinated global approach to address important issues facing the industry.
The founding members of the Council represent all levels of the supply chain,
including mining, processing, refining, retailing and recycling, and are
committed to promoting transparency and accountability in the jewelry industry
through third-party monitoring.
Developing a coordinated system that is practical, credible and effective will
take time. The Council is currently working in collaboration with
non-governmental organizations (NGOs), governments and private industry to
ensure that all viewpoints are represented.
We applaud the efforts of the Council for Responsible Jewelry Practices and
believe that by bringing all interested parties to the table, we can create
ethical, socially responsible solutions that promote industry integrity and
preserve our environment for future generations.
