on Mining Reform
Recently, Helzberg Diamonds was among eight retail jewelers recognized by Oxfam
America and Earthworks for our efforts to support reforms in the gold mining
industry.
These reforms include:
- Respecting basic human rights outlined in international conventions and law
- Gaining free, prior and informed consent from affected communities prior to
opening a new mine
- Respecting workers' rights and labor standards
- Protecting parks and natural reserves from mining and
- Protecting oceans, rivers, lakes and streams from mining wastes
Through Jewelers of America, a trade group representing 11,000 member jewelry
stores (including all of Helzberg Diamonds' 233 stores nationwide), we
have contacted key members of the United States Congress to express our strong
support for major mining law reforms
