1980-1989

With decades of expertise in diamond retailing, Helzberg Diamonds emerged as
the dominant diamond specialist of the 80's. In 1988, Barnett Jr. stepped up to
Chairman of the Board, and the company's leadership was strengthened by the
selection of Jeffrey W. Comment, a maverick retailer of national prominence, to
serve as president. With Comment at the helm, Helzberg Diamonds launched the
concept of the Helzberg value tag, to instantly communicate the exceptional
values customers could expect to find at Helzberg Diamonds. This little pink
Helzberg value tag became the cornerstone of our marketing strategy. Helzberg
Diamonds' buyers stayed one step ahead of most competitors by increasing buying
in international markets, offering the widest selections of truly unique jewelry
at the most competitive prices. Entering the 90's with 101 stores in 22 states,
Helzberg Diamonds continued its commitment to offer the best customer service in
retailing.
