May Winner - Rachel Bakken
On a beautiful trip to Paris, France, Diego proposed to me. He planned an entire evening of surprises for us. We both dressed up elegantly and then we left for the inner city of Paris. The evening began with a romatic boat tour down the Seine River, where we saw all the old buildings and historic bridges of Paris. The boat tour docked right under the Eiffel Tower, which sparkles at night like a tower of diamonds with thousands of flashing lights.
After finishing the boat tour, the driver was supposed to take us to the restaurant where we had dinner reservations. Instead, he only drove us around the corner and parked under the Eiffel Tower! To my surprise, the reservations were for dinner on the first platform of the Eiffel Tower!
After a delicious and romantic dinner, Diego kept asking for a picture. The waiter took a quick picture, but Diego insisted that another American couple take the picture. After a dew moments of Diego whispering with them, he returned to the table for them to take a picture of us. I leaned in for the picture, but because it was a video it never flashed, so I turned around and there was Diego holding the ring out to me asking me to marry him.
I laughed and cried a little; I of course said yes after a few moments. After Diego asked in English, he closed our engagement by asking me to marry him in French, which was wonderful that he had learned and remembered that phrase for me. Overall, this was the most romantic and surprising moment of my life.
