Garnet jewelry
Intoxicating color
The deep color of garnet reminds us of a rich, well-aged red wine. Maybe
that’s why we can’t get enough of it! It’s also known for having a lot of
sparkle and fire, thanks to its high refractive index. Its warm color looks
absolutely breathtaking with
yellow gold, especially when paired with
accent diamonds.
Garnets have been worn and loved for thousands of years. Traditionally, they were thought to symbolize faith, truth, friendship, loyalty and affection. They
were also supposed to dispel fear, end arguments, provide guidance and protect travelers.
Garnet is the birthstone for January. We think it also makes a wonderful treat for any woman looking to add a touch of deep color to her wardrobe.
Color and pedigree

At Helzberg Diamonds, most of our garnets are the color of an aged French
Bordeaux. But garnets also come in lighter reds, orange, yellow and green.
They’re mined in many places, from Australia to Zambia.
Taking them home
Garnet jewelry wears fairly well, so feel free to wear it for normal everyday
activity. Garnets have a moderate resistance to scratches, ranking 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 on
the Mohs Hardness Scale (where 10 is hardest). Their resistance to chipping and
breaking is fair-to-good. Clean garnet jewelry with liquid jewelry cleaner or
just mild soapy detergent and water. Ultrasonic cleaners are usually safe.
Reasons to buy garnets
Garnets offer rich, exciting color for a modest price tag, and that red color
makes them a shoo-in for Valentine’s Day, holidays and all romantic occasions. Garnet pendants look beautiful on fair skin, and a garnet bracelet is just right with fall and winter colors.
