Tanzanite jewelry
A modern gemstone with timeless appeal
Tanzanite is a thoroughly modern gemstone, discovered in the 1960s in the
hills of Tanzania, Africa — which is where it gets its name. When it was
discovered, this unusual stone created a sensation in the gem world, thanks to
its intense purplish-blue color which instantly captures the imagination of
anyone who sees it.
We love the cool shimmer of tanzanite with white gold and accent diamonds,
and it makes very feminine, beautiful three-stone jewelry.
Color and pedigree
Tanzanite may be violet, blue, or anywhere from light to dark purple.
It often changes color–more blue in daylight or fluorescent light, more
purple under incandescents. Most tanzanite is heat-treated to enhance its color.
Almost all of it is found in Tanzania, near Mount Kilimanjaro.
Taking it home
The color of tanzanite may be powerful, but the stone itself should be
handled gently. Tanzanite rates 6 to 7 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, where 10 is
diamond-hard, so while it’s moderately resistant to surface scratches, it can
still chip and break. Rapid temperature change is harmful, too, so don’t even
think about stashing those
tanzanite earrings in the freezer.
Clean tanzanite jewelry with mild soapy detergent and water or liquid jewelry
cleaner. Never use ultrasonic cleaners.
When to choose tanzanite
When you’re looking for something exciting and little bit different,
tanzanite is a beautiful choice. The captivating color is perfect for anyone
with blue eyes, a fondness for dark blue denim, or an adventurous spirit. For
women looking to spice up their wardrobe, tanzanite jewelry is an eye-catching
accessory with timeless appeal.
