The Four Cs

Diamond Rarity

Diamond

At Helzberg Diamonds, we pride ourselves on having extremely strict standards for diamond quality - especially when it comes to the cut of our diamonds. We stand behind every diamond that goes into every piece of our jewelry, ensuring that it lives up to the standards we have upheld since 1915.

The basics of diamonds has always come down to the 4Cs - cut, color, clarity and carat weight.

  • Cut: The cut of a diamond affects how well a diamond returns light back to the viewer's eye. A well cut diamond will appear brilliant and fiery.
  • Color: A diamond's color is a measure of the stone's whiteness, meaning it is actually measuring the lack of color a diamond has.
  • Clarity: The clarity of a diamond refers to the presence (or lack) of imperfections. Generally, the more imperfections (or inclusions) a diamond has, the lower the clarity.
  • Carat Weight: A carat specifically measures a diamond's weight. Because of its rarity, one larger diamond is more valuable than a combination of smaller diamonds.

Rated 2 out of 5 by If it was a G/H color and a SI1-SI2 in clarity with no carbon spots it would have sparkled a lot more. You do not want clouds in it either. I bought this ring. The first one they sold me was an HIJ in color and a I1- I2 in clarity. It was loaded with carbon spots. Their msrp was not as much as some stores but, it still sold for more then some other stores but, I like them and trusted them. They took it back and got me another one and this one was a little better. It was a H-I in color and a I1 in clarity. It still had carbon spots. Not as many as the first one but were easily seen. Then I was told to call IGI to reg. my name to the ring so in case it was stollen or lost they would know who it belonged too. I was told I could not do this if I wanted all the info. on this ring to send them more money. They said I only had 1/2 of the info. I had a lady tell me an I1 was very bad. I only wanted a ring that the defects could only be seen under a 10x mag. I have waited for this ring for 40 yrs. I have raised a child with a vp shunt and my 24 yr. old son has cancer. My husband just wanted me to have a nice ring . I do not know what to do. May 22, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by amazing I upgraded my first ring for this one. The pictures don't do it justice. The one I bought in store is actually g/h in color I1 clarity, with no carbon spots. I had it put into a white gold band instead of yellow. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this ring. I think it's a great value for the price. September 9, 2009
