Topaz

Topaz is a gemstone available in a rich rainbow of colors. Prized for several thousand years in antiquity, all yellow gems in antiquity were called topaz. Often confused with citrine quartz (yellow) and smoky quartz (brown), quartz and topaz are separate and unrelated mineral species. The most prized color of topaz is called Imperial topaz after the Russian Czars of the 1800s and features a magnificent orange body color with pinkish undertones. Topaz also comes in white, yellow, pink, purple, orange, and the many popular blue tones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful birthstones! My husband gave these to me for Christmas to match my ring and they are just as gorgeous! I am a December baby, but don't really care for the baby blues of most topaz. When I spotted the London blue topaz ring last summer, I just had to get it. Now I have the matching birthstone earrings and couldn't be happier! They keep their sparkle, even with wear, are comfortable and not too heavy, and large enough to be seen even when I wear my long hair down. Just perfect! December 29, 2012
